VOSH
(Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanity) is a non-profit organization
dedicated to delivering eyecare to needy individuals around the world.
Through the efforts of Hillsboro, KS optometrist Dr. Franklin Harms,
VOSH originated in 1972 as the United States first vision care project
to direct state volunteer professionals to all areas of the globe.
With the help of such organizations as the Lions Sight Foundation, VOSH
is now an international organization. Although VOSH is
vision-oriented other doctors, surgeons, dentists, teachers, nurses, and
homemakers have traveled and worked with VOSH teams. All
volunteers pay their own travel and living expenses.

Kansas VOSH has utilized Kansas' professionals to bring vision
care services to every Central American country as well as Venezuela,
Peru, Chile, and Bolivia. Dr. Cole has been very involved with
VOSH since 1982 and is currently co-director of Kansas VOSH and
International VOSH Vice-President. Dr.
Cole has been to Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, Haiti, Venezuela, Costa
Rica and Kenya in Africa. Dr. Cooper has been involved with
VOSH since 1992 and has been to Honduras, Panama, Bolivia, and Chile.
How can you help VOSH? The thousands of eyeglasses dispensed
on each VOSH trip are donated by civic clubs, churches, professional
offices, optical companies, and individuals like yourself. These
glasses are then "recycled", cleaned and labeled by
prescription. You may contribute usable eyeglasses (not lenses
only or frames only) by taking them to the office of any Kansas
optometrist. You can also give them to any Kansas Lions Club or
Rotary Club member.
Both Dr. Cole and Dr. Cooper are available for speaking
engagements concerning VOSH to social and civic organizations.
Requests can be made through the Salina office. |
